Achievements and Awards

TSIL is the first Indian sponge iron plant based on indigenously developed direct reduction technology. It was also the first sponge iron plant in India to receive the ISO-9002 and the ISO-14000 certifications. Besides, TSIL has won various awards, on corporate governance, quality, safety and environment. Some of the distinguished ones are:

Corporate Governance

TSIL was one of the 25 companies shortlisted and honoured for "Excellence in Corporate Governance" in 2003 and 2004 by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI).

Quality Awards

Mr. Ashok Pandit reciveing the IIM National Quality Award, 2002-03

  • Four First prizes in the quality competition organised by Indian Institute of Metals in the DR / rolling mills group for the years 1995-96, 1996-97, 1999-2000 and 2002-03.
  • A second prize in the above competition, for the year 1998-99.
  • First prize in the quality competition organised by CII (Eastern Region), for the year 1998-99.

Safety Awards

Receiving the Safety Award

  • Runners-up in the category Longest Accident Free Period of National Safety Award, 2003, instituted by the Ministry of Labour, Govenment of India.
  • Winner’s Award under Longest Accident Free Period category by Ministry of Labour, Government of India for the year 1997 and Runner’s up award under the same category for the year 1996.
  • Winner’s Award under Lowest Average Frequency Rate of Accident category by Ministry of Labour, Government of India for the year 1997 and Runner’s up award under the same category for the year 1998.
  • Three first prizes by the Government of Orissa under the scheme Lowest Weighted Frequency Rate of Accident" for the years 1989, 1994 & 1995 and a second prize in 1996. A third prize by the Government of Orissa for longest accident free hour during the year 1993.
  • Letter of Commendation for superior quality standards, by the Confederation of Indian Industry, during 1994.

Environment Awards

  • Gold award for one of the best managed companies under the metals sector in the field of environment, from Greentech Foundation, Delhi.
