Mr. Sudhir Deoras appointed as Jt. MD
Tata Sponge Board of Directors, in its meeting held on 11th July 2006, has appointed Mr Sudhir Deoras as Additional Director as well as Joint Managing Director of the Company with effect from 11th July, 2006, subject to shareholders' approval in the 23rd Annual General Meeting scheduled on 8th August, 2006.
Mr. Deoras was earlier the MD of the trading house of Tata Group called Tata International, earlier known as Tata Exports. Before that he was the Principal Executive Officer at Tata Steel.
Mr Deoras has been with the Tata Group from the start of his career. After completing his degree in Mechanical Engineering, he joined Tata Steel as a graduate trainee in 1973 and did a diploma in Electrical and Metallurgy from the Jamshedpur Technical Institute. He has done various management courses, including General Management in CEDEP, INSEAD, France and a programme on Globalization at the Sloan School of Management, USA. He also did an International Business Course at IMD, Lausanne, Switzerland.
He is a member of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) National Council on Exports since 1999-00 and is currently Co-Chairman of the CII's National Committee on Export. He is also on the Western Region Council of CII and was Chairman of its International Trade Committee for the past three years. He was on the Managing Committee of the Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mumbai in 2000-01 and 2001-02 and is currently Chairman of its South Africa-India Business Committee.
Mr Deoras has a keen interest in Sports, Dramatics & Music. He played badminton and cricket at University and State Level and was the President of Jamshedpur Badminton Association and Bihar Badminton Association in 1997.
