The conscientious efforts put in by Tata Sponge in the direction of environment care once again came up for recognition when the company received the Golden Peacock Award-2005 for excellence in environment management.

The Golden Peacock award on environment is an eminent third-party honour and has been instituted with an objective to encourage improvements in the environmental management standards in the country and to recognise those industrial units / organisations and service sector units which have made outstanding contribution in the protection of our ecology. With an effective environment conservation system and planned strategies in place, Tata Sponge strives to accomplish beyond legislative requirements and seeks to establish that good environmental practices do result in efficient processes that not only provide a congenial working atmosphere inside the factory but also healthy living conditions in the surrounding areas.

"Winning the Golden Peacock award stands testimony to our company's resolute commitment to foster a green culture in our society and move towards protection of mother earth” Mr. Ashok Pandit, Managing Director of Tata Sponge Iron Limited, stated after receiving the award from Dr. Ola Ullsten, former Primer Minister of Sweden, at a function held recently at Palampur, Himachal Pradesh. “It also sustains the fact that industrial development and environment conservation can go hand in hand”, he remarked.

This achievement adds another feather to Tata Sponge's cap after the winning of similar awards received from prestigious organisations like TERI, CII & GreenTech in the recent past and makes Tata Sponge the only sponge iron company in India to have secured so many distinctions in the fields of environment management.
