Greentech Environment Excellence Award

Mr. Ashok Pandit receiving the awardTata Sponge Iron Limited (Tata Sponge) was the first sponge iron company to receive the prestigious ISO-14001 certification. Now, it has become the first Indian company in the DRI sector to bag the Gold GreenTech Environment Excellence Award (GEEA). The award has been instituted by Greentech Foundation, Delhi. Greentech Foundation is a non-profit NGO established to promote industrial safety and environment management in the country.

GEEA is considered as one of the most prestigious awards in the field of environment. Its objective is to encourage implementation of strategies for improvements in environmental management standards in the country and to recognise those industrial units / organisations and service sector units which exhibit outstanding contribution in the protection of our ecology / mother nature. The awards have been classified in three categories: Gold, Silver and Bronze. They are presented to deserving organizations / companies in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the field of environment protection on the basis of their performance during a financial year. The qualifying application for this award is a comprehensive compilation of a unit's duties, responsibilities, achievements and concern towards protection of the environment and of the preventive and proactive measures taken by it as a responsible corporate body of our society.

The Award was received by Mr. Ashok Pandit, Managing Director and Mr. D. K. Mohanty Sr D.M. (PS&Env) during the awards ceremony held in Khajuraho.

3 Tata companies which won this year's GreenTech Environment Excellence Award.In a statement to the press, Mr.Pandit remarked "we are obviously happy that our efforts to maintain a clean and green company, in an industry reputed to be notoriously polluting, is now being recognized at the national level. This should provide our company with good exposure and project our company's image as an eco friendly organization, though operating in the metals sector".
