Tata Sponge achieves ISO-14000 Certification
Tata Sponge has achieved a major milestone in environmental protection recently when the auditors from IRQS recommended the company for receiving the ISO-14001 certification.
ISO-14001 certification is an accredited third-party verification that Tata Sponge has met the requirements of the international standard. It is granted to companies that have successfully demonstrated noteworthy commitment to environmental stewardship. With an effective environment conservation system and planned strategies in place, Tata Sponge strives to accomplish beyond the legislative requirements and seeks to establish that good environmental practices can result in efficient processes that not only provide a congenial working atmosphere inside the factory but also healthy living conditions in the surrounding area and at the same time, reduce the overall cost of operations.
"Achieving ISO-14001 certification is another jewel in the crown that distinguishes Tata Sponge from the rest in the DRI industry” Mr.Ashok Pandit, Managing Director of Tata Sponge Iron Limited stated “It also demonstrates our company’s conscientious initiative to foster a green culture in our society and move towards environmental protection of our mother earth”.
With this achievement, Tata Sponge has leveraged its already well established quality management system (ISO-9001:2000 version) and thus becomes the first sponge iron company in India to have secured a double certification in the fields of quality & environment.
