National Safety Award
The unwavering commitment made by Tata Sponge in setting up and maintaining exemplary safety standards in its Works came up for recognition by the Ministry of Labour, Government of India in the form of a National Safety Award for the year 2003, when the company was adjudged runners-up in the category “Longest Accident Free Period” for its outstanding performance in industrial safety. As per the rigid strictures, the award warrants its the participants to qualify in many evaluation criteria covering every aspect of company operations.

The award was received by Mr. B. P. Tripathy, Manager (Safety) from Mr. Sisram Ola, Minister for Labour and Employment, Government of India in a formal function held at New Delhi on 21st September 2004
Incidentally, Tata Sponge is arguably the only sponge iron company in India to be selected for this prestigious award five times in the past eight years. Besides, the company has also received seven such safety awards under various categories in the past from the Government of Orissa.
