First in State Safety Award, 2002-03
The unwavering commitment made by Tata Sponge in its pursuit to set and sustain superior safety standards yet again came up for recognition when the company was awarded first prize in the category of longest accident free award by the State Safety Award Committee for the year 2002-03. This annual competition on safety instituted by the Directorate of Factories & Boilers, Government of Orissa is aimed at recognizing the industries in Orissa registering highest safety performance during the year under review. Mr. D. K. Mohanty, Sr. Divisional Manager (Purchase, Stores & Environment) and Mr. B. P. Tripathy, Manager (Safety) jointly received the award from Mr. P. K. Naik, Minister of State for Labour & Employment, Government of Orissa in a formal ceremony held on 27th November, 2004 at Bhubaneswar.
As per the rigid strictures that the competition stipulates for its the participants, an applicant has to qualify in many criteria, besides keeping its safety levels very high, resulting in avoidance of all unsafe practices in the company.
Incidentally, Tata Sponge is the only sponge iron company in India to have been honoured with 13 national and state safety awards in the past 15 years which indicates the high and stringent safety standards of the company.
