Expanding a Green Horizon

The Climate Change consciousness as sensitized by TQMS month also touched the hearts at Tata Sponge as it exhibited its solicitude towards this global concern by dedicating the month of June as the “Tata Environment Month” in line with the programmes suggested by TQMS, besides a few other ideas. The prime objective of celebration was to stimulate awareness among employees & their ward about the present environmental scenario, with particular emphasis on climate change and our role to combat the same. During the month long programme, an overwhelming response from the employees and their family members was visible. The visual displays on CC (thanks to TQMS for mailing a few of these), all around the plant & township, created an aura of change that the company was vying for, as a mark of a responsible corporate citizen. The CC month was inaugurated on 4th June by hoisting the Environment flag by our Managing Director, Mr. Suresh Thawani. During the inaugural function, Mr. Thawani and other officials, including union representatives, elaborated on the forthcoming threat on human race, ecology and global climate scenario. Besides other issues, the month long programme for general awareness and action plan was also announced. The inaugural function was concluded with the environmental pledge taken by all employees.

On 5th June, a mass plantation programme was organized saplings were planted within the plant area. The month long programme saw employees’ kin participating in programmes like art competition for children, quiz competition, environmental film show etc. while the employees came out in large numbers by contributing their articles in competitions viz. poster, essay & slogan. Closing ceremony of CC month was celebrated on 29th June 2010 where all officials and associates assembled to reassert their concern on climate change. Prizes for various competitions were distributed during the closing ceremony.
