Will Govt allow power tariff hike?
Bhubaneswar, 05 Feb 2009. While projecting higher annual
revenue requirement, Gridco and OPTCL, the two Government PSUs,
have demanded substantial increase in the bulk supply tariff
and transmission tariff respectively from the Orissa
Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC). If approved, this
will have cascading effect on the retail supply tariff and
domestic consumers at a time when the general elections are
round the corner.
Gridco, the bulk supplier of power, has asked for an increase
of about 88 paisa per unit in the bulk supply tariff (BST) as
against the existing Rs 1.22 per unit. The annual revenue
requirement (ARR) proposed by the State utility for 2009-10 is
Rs 3,929 crore as against Rs 2,247 crore approved by OERC for
the current financial year.
